ESSEX, CT (WFSB) - A fire truck caught fire during a holiday celebration in Essex, firefighters reported.

The Essex Fire Engine Co. #1 said that it happened on Saturday night during the Ivoryton Illuminations celebration.

“For a reason still to be determined, a fire started in Engine 7, a 2016 Pierce Enforcer,” firefighters said in their report. “Thanks to the quick actions of our dedicated volunteers, the fire was contained and extinguished without causing any damage to adjacent apparatus or property.”

They also said no one was hurt.

The Fire Marshal’s office responded and is investigating the cause.

“Unfortunately, Engine 7 did sustain significant damage and will require extensive repairs before being able to return to service,” firefighters said.
