For the past week, Tanner Albert's been a mainstay in the Fairbanks North Star Borough mayor's office, learning the ropes of different aspects of the administration.

That included attending a Civ-Mil meeting with military and civilian representatives, examining the efficiency of one of the borough's new compressed natural gas buses, and occasionally doing public service announcements on social media.

"I've typed documents and done some long meetings," Albert said.

For Albert, it's part of being an eighth grader at Chinook Montessori Charter School. For Mayor Grier Hopkins's office, Albert is the second student to participate in a job shadow program.

"We do an apprenticeship program in eighth grade, so you pick a job and if they say yes, you job shadow them for a week," Albert said duri
