Last month, Shoppers Drug Mart in Elliot Lake expanded its health care services area.

Tony Huynh, designated pharmacy manager, says they expanded the health care section from one consultation area to three. Shoppers Drug Mart pharmacists can currently assess and treat 19 minor ailments without the person having to see a physician for a prescription.

A number of years ago, the Ontario government expanded the services pharmacists can perform across the province so can diagnose and prescribe medication to treat some ailments.
