Espanola council heard a presentation by Simon Rowland, the CEO of Renewable Power Partners, an energy company that is proposing a stationary shipping container battery site in the town.
The site would be located on the north end of town, west of Highway 6 between Old Webbwood and Jacklin Roads, across the highway from the current hydro transmission site.

Rowland explained that approximately 2.5 to 3 acres of property would be leased from a private property owner for the project, and would store electricity overnight from nuclear sites, then be released as needed (mostly during the summer months when air conditioning demand is high, he says).
