An American Goldsmiths student has been found guilty of murdering his on-and-off girlfriend after trying to claim he acted in self-defence.

Joshua Michals, 26, stabbed Zhe Wang, 31, a "gentle" fellow Goldsmiths student, twice in the face before strangling her in March last year at her flat in south-east London . He claimed he acted in self-defence following an argument the day before, during which Ms Wang is said to have mistakenly believed Michals had given her a sexually transmitted disease (STD).

Michals told jurors at the Old Bailey that he had felt "so-so" about starting a relationship with Ms Wang because of her fear of germs. The court previously heard that Ms Wang had demanded Michals get tested for an STD after spotting a "red dot" on her skin after sex. Jurors were told Micha
