The Government has confirmed plans to roll out a new Department for Work and Pensions ( DWP ) benefit aimed at those without employment. Labour unveiled the introduction of this fresh contributory benefit, tentatively named 'Unemployment Insurance', on 30th October.

Officials are currently engaged in consultation regarding the creation of a straightforward and transparent benefit via the overhaul of existing contributory working-age benefits . The proposal would see contribution-based Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA) and Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) merged into a singular new entitlement, paid at the present ESA rate.
