A man has tragically died after falling from a 13-storey building in a city centre.

Northumbria Police said that the man, in his 30s, fell from the roof of the Echo Building in Sunderland on Saturday afternoon, ChronicleLive reports.

A spokesperson for the force said: "At about 2:40pm on Saturday (December 6) we received a report of concern for the welfare of a man who was on the roof of a building in the Wear Street area of Sunderland. Emergency services attended however the man, aged in his 30s, had fallen from the building and sadly died. There is not believed to be any third-party involvement."

The man’s next of kin have been informed and a report has been filed with the coroner.

The North East Ambulance Service sent personnel to the scene. A spokesperson said: "We were called to an incident on West Wear Street, Sunderland shortly before 3pm on 6 December. We dispatched a double crewed ambulance and one vehicle from our Hazardous Area Response Team."
