BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - The LSU women’s basketball team stacked up a 64-point lead against the UNO Privateers on Sunday, Dec.7, in a dominating 126-62 win. Kate Koval, the sophomore transfer from Notre Dame, led that attack with a career-high 22 points.
Even with that performance, that wasn’t the only thing about the Tigers that left people talking. It was instead what happened before the game even began that garnered the attention of many, including Louisiana’s governor.
Head Coach Kim Mulkey took to social media after the team’s victory, sharing the moment players led the crowd in the singing of the national anthem. Mulkey said in part, “Today, when the sound system failed, our players stepped up and led the arena in the singing of the National Anthem—and the crowd joined as one."
