JACKSON, Miss. — Jackson police are investigating the death of a man who was apparently electrocuted Friday after attempting to climb a utility pole on Greenhill Drive.
Police said officers were dispatched around 4:30 p.m. to the 300 block of Greenhill Drive for a report of an electrocution. The caller initially reported that an elderly woman had walked into a power line and was electrocuted.
When officers, homicide detectives, the coroner, mobile crime investigators and firefighters arrived, they determined the victim was a man, not a woman, according to JPD.
A preliminary investigation indicated the man had allegedly tried to climb a utility pole, possibly intending to steal copper wiring. The pole broke, causing him to fall to the ground, where he was electrocuted, police said.
