Onondaga County Legislator Maurice “Mo” Brown said Monday he’s considering whether to challenge Assemblyman Bill Magnarelli in a Democratic primary election next year.

Brown, 33, of Syracuse, filed paperwork last week with the state Board of Elections declaring his candidacy for the 129 th Assembly District seat. The move allows him to raise money for a potential Democratic primary.

Brown was elected last month to a second term representing the 15 th District in the county legislature.

Magnarelli, 76, of Syracuse, is the dean of the Central New York delegation to the New York Legislature. He will begin his 28 th year in the Assembly in 2026.
