A man died following a fall from the roof of the Echo Building in Sunderland city centre on Saturday afternoon. Police confirmed that the man, in his 30s, had fallen from the building.

Officers from Northumbria Police had been called to the scene at around 2.40pm on December 6. There had been reports of concern for the welfare of a man on the roof of the building in the city's West Wear Street.

Emergency services attended but the man is understood to have fallen from the roof and to have died. Police do not believe any third party to be involved.
