WASHINGTON — Dollar General is planning to open hundreds of new stores in 2026, particularly in rural communities.

The discount retailer announced during its third-quarter 2025 earnings call last week that it plans to open around 450 new U.S. stores, along with about 10 new stores in Mexico, in addition to around 20 relocations and 4,250 store remodels.

There could be even more expansion in the future, as Dollar General CEO Todd Vasos explained on Thursday's call that the company has identified "approximately 11,000 opportunities for Dollar General stores in the U.S."

“And while we’ve always said that for a variety of reasons we don’t expect to capture every opportunity, we’re excited about our ability to significantly grow our footprint in the years to come,” Vasos said.
