OWENSBORO, Ky. — Daviess County Fiscal Court may decide on a parking law allowing sheriff’s deputies to ticket and tow cars that obstruct driveways, handicap spots or emergency routes.
The rules apply countywide, including inside Owensboro, but city police will still handle most downtown enforcement
The push comes as subdivisions and businesses multiply outside Owensboro, bringing a sharp increase in parking complaints.
Sheriff Brad Youngman said deputies currently spend valuable time hunting down vehicle owners just to ask them to move.
“It’s a problem for the person that calls,” Youngman said. “About all we can do is try to track down the owner of the vehicle and either call them or knock on the door and ask them to move. That does keep us pretty busy.”
