OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Months after an exclusive First Alert 6 investigation, an 89-year-old Omaha homeowner gets surprising news. After paying thousands of dollars for roof repairs never done, an arrest warrant has paid off.
Though a boy when his family escaped the communist takeover of Latvia, Herberts Melnalksnis remembers passing the Statue of Liberty.
“It’s a military ship, but it brought immigrants over,” Melnalksnis said.
Herberts not only became an American citizen but a travelled military veteran, accumulating collectables that he needed to protect from a potential leaky roof.
“That’s the papers they used from the company,” Melnalksnis said.
So more than a year ago, he gave a salesman for DRJ Services of Iowa cashier’s checks totalling $12,600.
