BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. — The Richland County Planning Commission weighed in on two major rezoning proposals on December 8, that could pave the way for new housing development near Blythewood. The commission ultimately recommended approval for rezoning on Wilson Boulevard, and disapproval for a request by Blythebrook Road.

Both requests sought to rezone agricultural land for moderate-density residential development (R3). According to county documents, the Wilson Boulevard proposal would rezone around 88 acres next to an existing neighborhood made up of low-density housing. Several nearby residents told News 19 they worry additional homes could create traffic bottlenecks.

“When you put in more houses, you bring in more cars, and it takes longer to get in and out of the neighborhood,” said Blythe
