Mkukula Magistrate’s Court in Dowa has sentenced a 38-year-old woman to eight years in prison after she was found guilty of stealing various items and K2 million from her employer.
Kanengo Police spokesperson Gresham Ngwira identified the woman as Rose Chiwaya from Jolijo Village under Traditional Authority Kwataine in Ntcheu.
According to Ngwira, prosecutor Charity Munkhondia told the court that Chiwaya stole the money and other items from her employer’s room last Sunday in Area 25, Lilongwe. The employer apprehended her and handed her over to police.
When she appeared in court, Chiwaya pleaded guilty to the charges, prompting Magistrate Mervis Sulumba to side with the State’s request for a harsher sentence.
