CHARLESTON — The county’s main library branch will temporarily relocate its services to the upper peninsula while undergoing renovations.
The Calhoun Street location is the last of the county libraries scheduled for upgrades, with construction set to begin in 2026. The work is part of a $108.5 million referendum that voters passed in 2014 that called for updates to all Charleston County Public Library branches.
Because the main location will be closed during renovations, County Council unanimously voted at its Dec. 4 finance committee meeting to lease space at 1142 Morrison Drive — the former International Longshoreman’s Association’s union hall building — for two years.
