WINDSOR, CT (WFSB) - Volunteers packed gifts as part of Project Santa, a Windsor community initiative helping to ensure hundreds of kids get the gifts they want this holiday season.

Donna McVeigh said she worked to make sure each family goes home with the gifts on their child’s wish list. She started volunteering for the non-profit 4 years ago to help out families in a situation she knows well.

“I was a single mom of two many many years ago,” McVeigh said. “I know the feeling of not being able to give a Christmas to your child.”

She was helped by a similar program years ago and now helps others through the non-profit started by Jane Garibay, who acts as one of Santa’s elves, making sure every kid gets what they want.

“Bicycles are big this year,” Garibay said.
