Alberta among provinces forecast to experience food price increases above the national average in 2026: Agri‑Food Analytics Lab
The average Canadian family is expected to pay more than $17,500 on food next year, according to a recently published report.
Overall food prices are forecast to rise by four to six per cent , according to Canada’s Food Price Report, published by the Agri‑Food Analytics Lab at Dalhousie University in Halifax. For a typical family of four, this would represent an increase of about $995 over this year.

“Alberta, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario, and Quebec are forecasted to experience food price increases above the national average next year,” the Agri‑Food Analytics Lab said in a news release.
