COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - The Columbus Water Works Board of Commissioners approved a 4.9% rate increase Monday night, to take effect in the new year.

News Leader 9 previously reported that as a result of the change, the average water bill would increase by $10 to $15 per month, according to Columbus Water Works President Jeremy Cummings. The proposal also included a regulatory compliance fee of $5 for residents, $10 for small businesses, and $25 for industries.

The Columbus Water Works representative said that the increase is to fund a new wastewater treatment system planned for 2032. CWW emphasized that the new rates will support “essential infrastructure upgrades needed to meet evolving regulatory requirements and keep pace with community growth.”
