The Winnipeg Police Service expects to finish the year on budget despite cost pressures, staffing challenges and rising demand for service, according to its third-quarter fiscal report released this week.
The service is forecasting revenues will come in $14.5 million above budget by year’s end. Most of that increase stems from roughly $9.5 million tied to provincially funded initiatives, including firearms analysis work and integrated units focused on violent offenders and missing persons. Funding linked to downtown safety efforts, wildfire-related emergency orders and the federal Gun and Gang Violence Action Fund also contributed to the boost, the report says.
