SARASOTA, Fla. ( WWSB ) - Four people were injured Dec. 8 when a pickup truck crashed into an ambulance in Winter Haven, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office said.
It happened at about 8:35 p.m. on U.S. Highway 27 and Lucerne Park Road.
The ambulance, with emergency lights and siren activated, was traveling westbound on Lucerne Park Road , heading to Winter Haven Hospital with a patient on a gurney in the back.
As the ambulance driver approached a red light, she slowed and looked both ways before entering the intersection. The sheriff’s office said at the same time, a black Ford F450 pulling a trailer, entered the intersection heading southbound at highway speed.
