The Major League Baseball hot stove was on fire Tuesday in the middle of the winter meetings.
On Tuesday, The Athletic's Will Sammon reported that former New York Mets All-Star closer Edwin Díaz was in agreement to join the Los Angeles Dodgers. ESPN's Jeff Passan reported that the agreement was for $69 million across three seasons.
That's a big chunk of change. In comparison, the Mets signed fellow All-Star closer Devin Williams to a three-year, $51 million deal . In the aftermath of Díaz's reported agreement with the Dodgers, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reported that the Mets offered the three-time All-Star a $66 million deal.
"The Mets' offer for Edwin Diaz was three years at $66M with modest deferrals, according to a source," Sherman wrote on X on Tuesday.
