We don’t know whether swimmer Penny Oleksiak — Canada’s most decorated female Olympian — was trying to hide steroid use when she missed three required drug-testing windows between October 2024 and June.
The seven-time Olympic medallist told CBC Sports in an interview that aired Tuesday that she accepts responsibility for the reporting failures that led to her two-year suspension from competitive swimming until 2027, but denied she has ever taken performance-enhancing drugs.
She said the ban is a result of flawed record-keeping on her part.
“I did do something wrong at the end of the day and it’s something that I do have regret around,” Oleksiak, 25, said, adding “it’s never been me to do performance-enhancing drugs or even think about doing performance-enhancing drugs.”
