The Warwick High School student who was shot to death inside a Hampton hotel room Nov. 27 was accidentally shot by another teenager in the room, Hampton police said Tuesday evening.
Evidence in the hotel room was also staged to make it appear that the student — identified by his mother as 17-year-old senior Zaeir Ellis — had shot himself, according to police. Hampton police said the other two teens in the room falsely told investigators that Ellis was playing with the gun when it went off.
Hampton Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Anton Bell said his office will not pursue a homicide charge against the teen who fired the fatal round.
