LOUISVILLE, Ky. —

The Center for Women and Families is asking for the community’s help to make the holidays brighter for survivors staying at its emergency shelter.

The center's emergency shelter is currently full, and more than half of the people living there are children. That’s why donations are so important in making the holidays feel special during a difficult time.

President and CEO Elizabeth Martin says the center serves children from newborns to 17 years old and works to make the season feel like a real celebration.

"One of the things that we try to do here is to make it as much of a celebration as possible, just as if they were at home," Martin said.

The center is collecting gift cards and new, unwrapped toys to provide comfort, hope, and a sense of normalcy. But Martin say
