CLEVELAND, Ohio – Coshocton County, northeast of Columbus, recorded the most deer kills among the state’s 88 counties for the state’s just-ended gun season, narrowly edging out runner-up Ashtabula County.
Statewide, Ohio hunters checked 85,448 deer from Dec. 1 through Dec. 7, an increase over the 3-year average of 76,409.
Ashtabula County had the second-most deer checked during the period at 3,031, with Portage at 982, Geauga at 970, Medina at 966, Lorain at 953, Lake at 297, Summit at 267 and Cuyahoga at 74.
Altogether, hunters have harvested more than 187,000 deer across the state since September, when archery season began. Still to come is a gun weekend on Dec. 20-21 and a muzzleloader season slated for Jan. 3-6, with archery season continuing to Feb. 1. A youth gun weekend was held
