SHELBY, N.C. — A Cleveland County man convicted in a deadly 2022 shooting outside a Shelby bar will remain in prison for life after the North Carolina Court of Appeals upheld his murder conviction.

The court ruled on Dec. 3 that there was no plain error in the trial of Roderick Young, 41, who was found guilty in December 2023 of first-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a felon, and attaining habitual felon status. Young was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

The shooting happened in the parking lot of Skooterz Bar & Grill on East Dixon Boulevard in the early morning hours of April 2, 2022.
