WAREHAM, Mass. —

Two stranded common dolphins were rescued from a marsh in Wareham, Massachusetts, on Tuesday morning.

The Wareham Department of Natural Resources said the porpoises were trapped in the area of Beaver Creek off the Weweantic River around 10:45 a.m.

Responding crews found that both dolphins were active and alive, but unable to get back out to the ocean due to the receding tide.

IFAW's Marine Mammal Stranding Response Team was called to the scene and loaded both animals into a transport vehicle.

Officials say one dolphin weighed 90 pounds while the second one weighed around 150 pounds.

Short-beaked common dolphins range from 6 to 8 feet long and weigh, on average, 170 pounds, according to NOAA Fisheries.
