Local faith-based nonprofit Wonderfully Made is launching a suicide-prevention campaign aimed at addressing what it calls a growing mental-health crisis among teen girls.
To support the initiative, founder Allie Marie Smith is running the Catalina Island Marathon while raising $260,000 from Santa Barbara County donors. The funds, she said, will help expand outreach through digital media, school partnerships and community programs.
“I want to show people who’ve experienced debilitating mental health issues, especially girls, that they can overcome and live flourishing lives,” Smith said.
The nonprofit — focused on supporting girls’ and women’s mental, emotional and spiritual well-being — is inspired by Smith's own personal experience as a young woman surviving a suicide attempt.
