VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Virginia Beach City Council on Tuesday voted to transfer money between certain flood mitigation projects in order to get seven of them off the ground.
In 2021, Virginia Beach voters overwhelmingly approved a bond referendum to issue up to $567.5 million in bonds for flood mitigation measures. Over 20 projects were listed in Phase 1 of the bond issuance.
Since that time, city staff has been negotiating a final price with a contractor for seven projects located in Windsor Woods, Princess Anne Plaza, and The Lakes areas. These projects could be completed in 2031 and would include items like pump stations, flood gates and flood barriers.
In order to fund those seven projects, some monetary transfers between projects were necessary, Virginia Beach City Council said.
