OKOBOJI, Iowa (KTIV) - Not everyone is dreading the winter weather. For cross-country skiers on the Iowa Great Lakes, the recent cold and snow means it’s time to hit the trails.
Two miles of trails are groomed and open for both classic cross-country skiing and skate skiing at the Brooks Nature Center. The trails are primarily within the Brooks Golf Course, but some venture into the Dickinson County Nature Center.
Volunteers say due to this season’s heavy snowfall, equipment upgrades and extensive collaboration with partners, they are planning to nearly double the number of trails in the weeks to come.
