HAVELOCK, N.C. (WITN) - As the Star-Spangled Banner played, Marines stood strong in celebration of it’s 250th birthday.
Tuesday night was the first time the City of Havelock and the Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point opened up a celebration for it’s Marine Corps to the public.
“This is such a unique opportunity to allow the community to come out and say thank you to the Marines,” Mayor Will Lewis said. “But also for the Marines to say that back to the community and show them a little taste of what the Marine Corps does at a ball, and get everyone involved in that celebration and not just keeping it inside the Marine Corps.”
The Marine Corps’ birthday is often celebrated on November 10, a day before Veterans Day, but this year was a bit different.
