More than 200,000 people could die in a devastating 98-foot tsunami feared across Japan .
The nation's weather agency has issued its highest-level warning a megaquake could follow Monday’s 7.5-magnitude tremor . Now, authorities have urged anyone living near the Pacific coast to remain vigilant and to prepare evacuation plans in case they need to flee their homes.
The area, the approximate 800 miles (1,300 kilometres) from Chiba to Hokkaido, is popular with tourists, including Brits. It covers parts east and northeast of Tokyo, such as the scenic Izura Coast. It is estimated a tsunami in the region subject to the alert could wipe out more than 200,000 people.
