CLEVELAND, Ohio — An 89-year-old Parma man has pleaded guilty after being charged with a hit-and-run accident that wounded a mother and her 2-year-old child.

George Balasko admitted Monday to two counts of failing to stop after an accident in which he struck Shalonte Maddox, 32, and her son, Genesis, with a car outside a Marc’s on West Ridgewood Drive in Parma.

William McGinty, a retired judge, sentenced Balasko to 30 days of house arrest and a year of probation. His driver’s license is suspended until December 2031. McGinty filled in for Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Deborah Turner, who is recovering from knee surgery.

At about 7 p.m. on March 21, Maddox had just finished shopping at Marc’s and was pushing a shopping cart in the parking lot while Genesis sat in the cart.
