The volunteers who run Windsor's free skate lending program are gearing up for a busy year, with the opening of the new rink in front of city hall — and just steps from their front door — on the horizon.
Art Roth runs All Saints' Anglican Church's skate lending program. Tucked inside a church hall are shelves and shelves of skates, in all sizes. Come by and borrow a pair for a few weeks or the winter season, Roth encourages.
"It's our gift to the community, the church's gift to the community," he said. This year, skate lending started on Dec. 6 and will run until the end of February.
The church is ideally located: just across the street from Charles Clark Square and, now, just steps from the City Hall Square rink opening this weekend.
