The Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) has destroyed 730 weighing instruments, including scales, that were confiscated in Lilongwe for being illegally used in trade.
The destruction exercise comes just days after the bureau disposed of 650 similar instruments in Blantyre on Monday, according to the MBS Director of Metrology Services, Stephen Chalimba.
Chalimba added that prohibited scales were also seized in Mzuzu earlier this year, bringing the total number of confiscated and soon-to-be-destroyed instruments to about 2,000.
