Uncertainty surrounds the future of a historic Stockport building. The grade-II listed Woodbank Hall, in Woodbank Park outside the town centre, is on Historic England's heritage at-risk register.
The building dates back hundreds of years to 1814, and last November Stockport council promised there would be ‘concrete proposals’ on the table in early 2025 over the long-term plans for the site .
One of the town’s historic landmarks, Historic England judged the building to be in a ‘very bad’ condition, with ‘immediate risk of further rapid deterioration or loss of fabric; no solution agreed.’ The council was initially criticised for delays in carrying out essential fixes , but it has spent more than £250,000 on security and repairs.
