A surgeon is warning that the festive party season could increase the risk of mouth and throat cancers - and says anyone who drinks more often in December should watch for one subtle sign that something is wrong. As Christmas gatherings ramp up, many people unknowingly increase how often they drink - from work parties and dinners to nights out.
Experts say that even moderate but frequent drinking can quietly damage the delicate lining of the mouth and make it more vulnerable to cancerous changes. Dr Andrej Bozic, oral surgeon at Dentum in Croatia, which treats hundreds of UK patients every year, says alcohol is one of the “most overlooked” drivers of oral cancer because its effects build up slowly and painlessly.
