ANN ARBOR, MI — A 115-year-old hall at the University of Michigan Museum of Art will close for renovations this winter.
Alumni Memorial Hall, the museum’s South wing, will begin the full replacement of its marble floor next January, according to a Dec. 9 University Record update .
University administrators expect the project to be completed by next fall. The rest of the museum will remain open to the public.
“The marble floors, walked by generations of students, faculty and visitors, had reached a state beyond repair,” the University Record update states. “The university and the museum initially pursued a restoration approach, but ultimately determined a full replacement was necessary to ensure long-term stability and accessibility.”
