TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - The Department of Homeland Security released new information about the federal raids at Taco Giro locations and the protests that followed.

HSI was also critical of Representative Adelita Grijalva’s claim of being pepper sprayed at one of the raid and protest locations.

The raids took place Friday, December 5.

HSI says 16 federal search warrants targeted nine restaurants and seven associated stash houses.

The operation was part of a multiyear investigation into a transnational criminal organization involved in labor exploitation, tax violations, and immigration violations.

Homeland Security says 46 illegal aliens were arrested.
