With clear skies and a stroke of luck this weekend, stargazers will be able to see one of the most spectacular meteor showers of the year. The Geminids reach their peak this week, offering up to 100 'shooting stars' an hour.

The annual Geminids meteor shower is active between December 4 and December 20, peaking overnight this Saturday into Sunday (December 13-14). And this year's display could be under perfect night sky conditions, with the Moon sitting below the horizon for most of the evening, the UK Space Agency said.
