MORAVIA, Iowa —
The state of Iowa is pushing back against claims that it mismanaged and abandoned a financially troubled southern Iowa resort.
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources owns Honey Creek Resort in Appanoose County. It's being sued by Achieva Enterprises, the former operator of that resort.
Achieva says the state shut down the resort, fired more than 50 employees, seized property, and launched a smear campaign that damaged the company's reputation and business.
The state, in response, says it terminated the contract with Achieva because the company failed to live up its contractual obligations "for significant lengths of time."
