WINTERSET, Iowa —

The Madison County Board of Supervisors voted to hire an out-of-state agency to perform audits for fiscal years 2025 through 2027.

It comes as the latest in a year-long string of controversies related to former county staff and practices.

In January, there were concerns over hiring practices within the County Auditor's office. That auditor, Teri Kaczinski, has since resigned , and a special election was held in August. Michele Brandt has served as the county's auditor since.

The former county Treasurer, Amanda DeVos , also had charges filed against her in February for misconduct, tampering with records, and theft.
