The home of the president of the University of Georgia could soon become a boutique hotel under plans set forth by a local developer.

The Atlanta Business Chronicle , an 11Alive news partner, reports that the five-acre property would include a 72-room hotel behind the existing home. The mansion would become the new hotel's restaurant, bar and meeting space.

The latest plan is a scaled-down version of the original proposal, which envisioned 116 rooms, underground parking and an event venue. Those components are not part of the new plan, the Chronicle reported.

The 19th-century home at 570 Prince Avenue has served as the official president's residence since the university bought it in 1949. Over the past 70-plus years, seven presidents have lived there, according to the university.
