The boys basketball teams at Bozeman High and Gallatin High enter the new season in similar situations.

Both teams are light on returning players with extensive varsity experience, so success will be dictated by how well and how quickly everybody can get adjusted to their new roles.

Last season, Gallatin made the state tournament at the expense of Bozeman, as the Raptors won 69-54 in a play-in game. Gallatin ended up placing fourth in the state.

The head coaches for both schools said it was too early to focus on this season’s state tournament. There is a lot of learning that must take place before that can become a concern.

The Hawks start their season with home games at 7 p.m. Thursday against Helena Capital and at 4 p.m. Saturday against Butte. The Raptors start with a home game at 4
