It will be an option for officials to use against benefit claimants in certain circumstances.

It's part of a major crackdown against benefit fraud, and another tool officials will have in their armoury to try to convince fraudsters to pay back what they owe.

Other powers will include forcing banks to share information about certain claimant's back accounts to see if they are eligible for what they are claiming.

The DWP will also be able to make direct withdrawals in cases where money is owed.
