Dallas Mavericks center Dereck Lively II requires season-ending right foot surgery, the team announced Wednesday. He’s expected to be available for the start of training camp next season.
The 21-year-old was limited to seven games this season as he dealt with swelling and soreness in his right foot. He posted averages of 4.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.6 blocks in 16.4 minutes per game.
Lively was plagued by injuries in his first two seasons as well. He played in 55 games as a rookie, when the Mavericks reached the NBA Finals before losing to Boston in five games. He played just 36 games last season, dealing mostly with a stress fracture in his foot.
Dallas is also without guard Kyrie Irving, who tore an ACL last March and has an uncertain timeline for a return this season.
