WOLFE ISLAND, Ontario (WWNY) - Making sure Horne’s Ferry’s docks remain docks, the Wolfe Island port has been purchased by a Canadian township.
Over the foggy St. Lawrence River sits the recently purchased Wolfe Island ferry port, bought by Wolfe Island Township, the town of Frontenac Islands, to make sure the former Horne’s Ferry Canadian dock remains unchanged, but it’s not a permanent solution.
“It’s purchased, and it is an investment by Frontenac Islands as a placeholder in that it’s not that Frontenac Islands has any intention of operating a ferry,” said Judy Greenwood-Speers, mayor of the Township of Frontenac Islands.
Since Horne’s Ferry’s closure in 2024, Cape Vincent has purchased the U.S. side of the ferry’s dock, with Wolfe Island’s dock purchased for $325,000 early this mont
