RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. — A 12-year-old child who reportedly drove away in his father's care on Wednesday has been found and is safe, authorities say.

The Richland County Sheriff's Department (RCSD) said previously that 12-year-old Joel Inbody was last seen around 1:40 p.m. on Wednesday. In an update, deputies said Inbody drove away in his father's dark 2018 Toyota Camry.

And at one point, authorities also believed they saw Inbody at a convenience store in the 9900 block of Two Notch Road. RCSD investigators said they were concerned for his safety due to his young age and current cold weather conditions.

On Wednesday, Joel's father, William Inbody, pleaded for his son's safe return.
